Evans Joins House Leader Boehner's Call for Spending Caps

CBO report reveals a $9.3 Trillion deficit over the next decade
CUMMING, Ga. -- The nation's economic outlook grew even more grim Tuesday with the release of the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office mid-year budget update.
The CBO report indicated that if President Barack Obama's budget is approved, the federal government will run deficits of nearly $1 trillion a year over the next decade. The cumulative deficit from 2010-19 would be $9.3 trillion or $2.3 trillion more than the Obama administration forecast as recently as last month.
Mike Evans, Republican candidate for Georgia's Ninth Congressional District, said today the release of the report proves the president's spending policies threaten the nation's economic security.
"I join House Republican Leader John Boehner in his call for the Democrat-controlled Congress to impose strict annual caps on federal spending," Evans said Wednesday. "When I'm elected I'll stand shoulder to shoulder with other conservative Republican leaders and fight to end expensive Democrat experiments like the president's so-called health-care overhaul. I'll also work to end the costly practice of earmarks and pork. As a four-term state representative, I was 32 and 0 in voting against earmarks. That's why I've signed the Club for Growth's No Earmarks Pledge."
The CBO forecast is likely to boost pressure from Democrats for more tax increases, but Evans said that is exactly the wrong solution. "I'm strongly committed to cutting taxes. That's why I signed the Americans for Tax Reform Protection Pledge. We have to cut taxes, cut spending and get Americans back to work. To do that, we need strong conservative Republican values in Congress," Evans said.
"The president repeatedly claims the present health care system can't be sustained. But what the CBO report clearly shows is that it's President Obama's government health care reform that can't be sustained. It will explode the deficit, increase taxes and put more Americans out of work."
Compounding the economic crisis was the news that the U.S. jobless rate, which hit 9.5 percent in June and dipped slightly to 9.4 percent last month, is likely to rise to 10 percent by the end of this year.
Evans served four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and rose to the third highest Republican leadership position. He was honored by the Georgia Republican Party as Legislator of the Year in 1998.
He and wife Gena are the proud parents of three children, Lauren, Wil and Faith.
