Blasts Obama's Strategy of Engagement With Rogue Regimes

CUMMING, Ga. - Mike Evans, Republican candidate for Ninth District Congress, strongly condemned the Scottish government today for its decision to release terrorist Abdelbaset al Megrahi and called on President Barrack Obama to abandon his failed policy of engagement with rogue regimes such as Libya.

"Watching this brutal mass murderer given a hero's welcome in Libya made me sick to my stomach," Evans said Monday. "This was a terrible decision on the part of the Scottish government that has caused an infinite amount of pain and suffering among the survivors of those killed in the bombing of Pam Am flight 103. My thoughts and prayers are with them today."

Al Megrahi, the Libyan agent convicted of the 1988 bombing of Pam Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland that killed 270 people, mostly Americans, was allowed to return to his family where he will die of terminal prostate cancer.

President Obama urged the Libyan government to place al Megrahi under house arrest when he arrived. Instead, he was treated to a hero's welcome.

"The Libyans just blew off the President," Evans said. "The President shook hands with Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi at the G8 summit. Now he's thumbing his nose at him. Hopefully this will serve as a wake-up call for this administration that has embarked on an extremely dangerous strategy of engagement with rogue regimes."

Evans served four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and rose to the third highest Republican leadership position. He was honored by the Georgia Republican Party as Legislator of the Year in 1998.He and wife Gena are the proud parents of three children, Lauren, Wil and Faith.
